Project: DUNE GPU Containerization

The DUNE experiment, specifically during simulations of detectors, have a strong need for GPU based computing. Large scale computing has been standard for a long time in particle physics, but GPU's are relatively new to this area. Because of this, standard tools are not available. Containerization of GPU based applications and libraries aims to bridge this issue, making it easier for distributed computing as well as individual groups on other centers. This project first the creation of containerized CUDA toolkit including a near detector response simulation and based on the Fermigrid worker node image. Then benchmarking the container and various container runtimes using the simulation as an example DUNE GPU workload. The container will then be tested with DUNE's distributed computing system and verifying reliable operation with different computing centers.
