Project: Either Columnar Object Data Storage or Beam Simulations for Muon Cooling
Considering two potential research projects. The first involves developing an object-based data storage system for the CMS experiment using Ceph S3 technology, which would replace the current file-based "data tier" model and allow more fine-grained access to event data products, potentially reducing storage requirements in preparation for the HL-LHC era. The second project involves using simulation techniques to optimize the ionization cooling channel design for a muon collider at Fermilab, tuning beamline parameters to achieve the factor-of-5 to 10 emittance reduction needed to meet collider design goals. He anticipates finalizing his decision between the two projects in the near future.
